Today, about 100 Egyptians joined by ten or fifteen internationals held a vociferous protest against the Egyptian-supported, American-financed steel Wall of Shame that threatens to cut off the tunnel trade, which is how what’s left of independent economic activity continues in Gaza. I’ve been to a number of protests in Egypt in the past month. This one seemed unusually energetic, full of deserved fury. One participant climbed atop the steel barriers the riot police had placed around the Press Syndicate, practically jumping in the air as he screamed in a chant with the crowd, “Hosni Mubarak,” to which they responded “False,” “Gamal Mubarak,” “False,” “Imprisonments,” “False.“
