Attention converges on Gaza during flash-points: massacres, incursions, flotillas, convoys. But it is the quiet flaying of the dreams of Gazans, the quiet destruction of their hopes, the quiet--because unreported--destruction of their homes and livelihoods, the myriad indignities that they constantly endure, the quiet grind of the occupation and the siege that bears down on their lives. Here's one. Noor Ahmed,a 20 year old English student, who had made arrangements months in advance to go to the West Bank for a peace conference. But today Erez is closed. Not for any good reason but because of a reflexive mindset that at the slightest hint of a "security threat," or simply on any pretext whatsoever, is happy to say "no" to Palestinians, as they try to do just about anything. The siege has 1.5 million victims, and they suffer from it every day of their existence.
