Israeli Brownshirts

I know, I know. I can make the objec­tions, and then no one else has to: these are outliers, extrem­ists, fanatics, Likudniks, Kahanists [that one is actually true], unrep­re­sen­ta­tive. This is poor jour­nal­ism, sen­sa­tion­al­ism, demo­niza­tion, a man­i­fes­ta­tion of self-hatred, Jewish anti-antisemitism, anti-professional, non-sensical. It’s an aber­ra­tion, bizarre [shit, also true], unfaith­ful to reality, etc. etc.

But a few facts: one, this rally was attended by members of the Knesset. Two, that sign does read Jordan = Palestine. Three, they are chanting, “Saddam Hussein Obama.” And four, they do call Rahm Emanuel a self-hating Jew. As Blu­men­thal points out, these are the people that gunned down Yitzhak Rabin. But Yitzhak Rabin was the one who called on Israeli troops to break the bones of Pales­tini­ans during the first Intifada. That murder was in-fighting. The good side, según yo, is over here.
