Also worth noting that Alterman is one the primary figures at the magazine in support of the notion that any kind of political activism separate from the Democratic Party should be subjected to scorn and ridicule. His primary audience appears to be baby boomers that relate to his mundane insights about movies and music. I actually sent a comment to his blog when he called As'ad Abukhalil a racist a couple of weeks ago, and, of course, it was never posted. When I see this stuff, as well as the magazine's antipathy to Chavez, I actually start to wonder if it is covertly funded by the intelligence community or a DC lobbying firm known for its effective astroturf activities, as crazy as that sounds.
